"Bridging the research-to-practice gap in personalized care for depression,
one youth at a time."

Welcome to the

Care for Adolescents who Receive

Information 'Bout Outcomes (CARIBOU)

Lab

Worldwide, more than 350 million people live with depression. For 50% of them, the disorder began in childhood (McGrath et al., 2023). Reports of depressive symptoms appear to be increasing, given that 1 in 4 youth globally experience clinically elevated symptoms of depression following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic (Racine et al., 2021). Still, existing treatments demonstrate high dropout rates among youth with depression (de Haan et al., 2013), thus, there remains a need to further research on optimizing care for this population.

Meet the rest of the Team
With the CARIBOU research projects, we hope to discover the best way to provide the best care for youth with depression. We incorporate research evidence, clinician expertise, youth input and caregiver perspectives in all of our projects and materials with the goal to make sure our research findings are relevant to the people that need it most.
Giving youth the space to give their input on youth-centered issues offers them a chance for expression within topics that are relevant to their lives, while also allowing them to make sure the information gathered is representative of their experiences. I hope this creates more accurate youth-oriented resources and empowers them to further educate others around them.

CAMH is situated on lands that have been occupied by First Nations for millennia; lands rich in civilizations with knowledge of medicine, architecture, technology, and extensive trade routes throughout the Americas. In 1860, the site of CAMH appeared in the Colonial Records Office of the British Crown as the council grounds of the Mississaugas of the New Credit, as they were known at the time. Today, Toronto is covered by the Toronto Purchase, Treaty No. 13 of 1805 with the Mississaugas of the Credit. Toronto is now home to a vast diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis who enrich this city. CAMH is committed to reconciliation. We will honour the land through programs and places that reflect and respect its heritage. We will embrace the healing traditions of the Ancestors, and weave them into our caring practices. We will create new relationships and partnerships with First Nations, Inuit and Métis and share the land and protect it for future generations.
